Fall Academy Programming
Junior Rec Red Ball (ages 6-8)
Our Recreational Red ball classes will progress the kids in each facet of the game. The kids will enjoy games developing eye-to-hand coordination, progressive stroke production techniques, dynamic movement, and basic game play. The program will look to have kids enjoy social match play opportunities on a full 36’ court with a 25% compression tennis ball and maximum racquet size is 23”. We also have kids ages 4-5 in our TOTS program.

Tots | Mon and Wed 3:30-4 pm
Junior Rec Orange Ball (ages 7-10)
The Recreational Orange ball kids have successfully graduated to the 60’ court, using a 50% presureless tennis ball, and max 25” racquets. At this level, the kids will continue developing their footwork and stroke with added tracking drills, dynamic movement, and live game play, including serving +1/returning +1 drills/games. There will be beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels grouped together based on their ladder position. The INT and ADV kids will also enjoy opportunities for coached match play internally and externally. *Competitive pathway option available.

Junior Rec Green Futures (ages 7-14)
The Recreational Green ball kids have now graduated into a full 78’ court, using a 75% presureless tennis ball, and capable of using a 26” or adult size racquet. The classes are designed to progress the kids in each facet of the game, but will add to their footwork, advanced racquet skills and grips, and attain more of a tennis IQ during game play. Same opportunities are available for added internal and external coached match play. We will continue to separate the kids based on their current skill level and/or ladder position. *Competitive pathway option available

Junior Rec Yellow Ball
The Recreational Yellow ball kids train/play on a full 78’ court, using the full yellow tennis ball, and capable of using a 26” or adult size racquet. The classes are designed to progress the kids in each facet of the game, but will add to their footwork, advanced racquet skills and grips, and attain more of a tennis IQ during game play. Same opportunities are available for added internal and external coached match play. We will continue to separate the kids based on their current skill level and/or ladder position.

Junior Tournament Training/Competitive pathway
Approval by our Head Teaching Professional is required to get added to this program and would be the next level of our program. A family meeting would be set up to talk about the program and work out a realistic plan for the player and family. Kids can be orange, green, and/or yellow ball players, but committing to a general competitive pathway in both on court training (private and group), internal and external match play/tournament events, and off-court training. Our tournament training kids can develop skills on a continuous live ball. We will fine tune the necessary footwork, mechanics (grips, swings speeds, dynamic/static balance), staple patterns of play (i.e., tennis IQ), and positioning for singles and doubles.

Intraclub and Interclub Match play opportunities
Challenge Ladder Intraclub match play gives the kids experience in both singles and doubles in a low pressure and enjoyable environment with your friends.
Thursday 5-6:30 pm
Dates: Sept 10-Nov 12 | Kids will have a schedule for when they play.
John Morris Afterschool League, hosted at The Club at Glenmore, brings kids to enjoy a coached match play for both singles and doubles.
Friday 4:30-6 pm
Dates: Sept 11 | Oct 2 | Oct 16
GJTA Travel Team is a starting point for the kids to have another low pressure match play experience. We will host and travel to area clubs in Charlottesville as well as other areas within the Mid-Atlantic.

The Glenmore Junior Tennis Academy strives to give access and opportunity to all, while cultivating skilled tennis players who exemplify the excellence through sportsmanship and life.
